Feijoa
£2.75 (per 275g)
Sometimes known as pineapple guava, guavasteen or Brazilian guava, the feijoa is native to south america, but widely grown in New Zealand. A ripe feijoa should feel slightly soft to the touch, similar to a ripe avocado. Most people compare the flavour to a mix of pineapple, guava, and strawberry. Eat with a teaspoon like a kiwi.
Rich in vitamin C and fibre, supporting both immune health and digestion, with the added benefit of being naturally low in fat. A good source of polyphenol antioxidants, which help protect cells from oxidative stress.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible in individuals sensitive to myrtle family plants.
